The Bankesters are one of the most sought after bands on the bluegrass scene. Emily Bankester was recognized in 2012 with IBMA’s Momentum Award for Vocalist of the Year and the band’s newest Compass Records release “Nightbird” showcases the musical maturity and virtuosity of this fine acoustic ensemble.
As the name suggests, The Bankesters feature the extraordinary voices of sisters Melissa, Emily and Alysha. Each has a truly distinctive lead voice, but when they sing together, they create magic. Emily primarily plays fiddle but is also an accomplished clawhammer banjo player. Alysha plays mandolin, but fills in on fiddle as well. Melisa holds everything together with her solid, articulate bass playing. Melissa’s husband Kyle Triplett adds his own creative and highly-developed playing style with banjo, guitar
and mandolin. The ladies’ dad, Phil, adds rhythm guitar and additional vocals.
Their repertoire ranges from emotive ballads and Folk-influenced Alt Country, to Americana and high energy traditional bluegrass. The songs are originals, gleaned from some of today’s best songwriters as well as their own, along with an occasional cover. Their previous release “Love Has Wheels” won the “Best Bluegrass Album” in the 13th annual Independent Music Awards.
