The Asheville Percussion Festival is being held June 26 – July 2, 2017 in beautiful Asheville, NC. Come enjoy a creative environment where percussionists and dancers of all traditions, from around the globe, gather to explore, create and innovate. All workshops on Saturday, July 1, are free to the public and will be held at the Odyssey Community School. The Masters Concert, which will feature collaborative compositions from our world-renowned teaching artists, will be held at the Diana Wortham Theatre on Saturday, July 1, at 8pm. Percussionists wanting more instruction and collaboration will find it in a week-long intensive program which begins Monday, June 26, at the Odyssey location.  The exciting lineup for this year’s festival includes percussion artist OMAR FARUK TEKBILEK, one of the world’s foremost exponents of Middle Eastern music and a multi-instrumentalist par excellence (ney, zurna, baglama, oud, as well as percussion). His music is rooted in tradition, but has been influenced by contemporary sounds. Also joining our percussion family this year is MARCUS SANTOS who commits his life to the study, teaching and performance of his hometown of Bahia, Brazil’s Afro-Brazilian music and heritage as well as world drumming diversity.  Joyfully included in this year’s stellar lineup are Asheville local favorites, RIVER GUERGUERIAN, ELIOT WADOPIAN, CHRIS ROSSER, MATTHEW RICHMOND and KEVIN SPEARS.
