In this tribute to Collings Guitars founder Bill Collings, experience 3 National Flatpicking champions as they perform, bringing with them musical backgrounds ranging from Bluegrass, to Acoustic Jazz, and many other styles. Surprise musical guests will add to the evening, promising to be an acoustic music journey beyond just the usual flatpicked fiddle tunes that you would expect to hear.

Allen Shadd

Allen is a two-time National Flatpicking champion, winning the title in 1997 and again in 2013. He is also a two-time Wayne Henderson guitar competition champion, as well as Merlefest champion, Rockygrass champion and many other state and regional titles are among his awards. Although he has excelled in his contest endeavors, he is equally at home performing workshops and concerts. He has performed or recorded with many artists, including Tom T. Hall, Claire Lynch, Randy Howard, Peter Rowan, Alan O’Bryant, Jack Lawrence, Jack Pearson, David Grier, Norman Blake, Barry Lee Harwood, T. Michael Coleman, and many more. He has been featured as an artist and has also authored articles in numerous music publications. He currently performs with the award winning Darin and Brooke Aldridge band.

Mark Cosgrove

Mark Cosgrove has won the U.S. National Flatpicking Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas and also the Doc Watson Guitar Championship in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. His flatpick guitar work is notable not only for power, precision, and tone, but for his fluid high speed improvisation. Mark is equally proficient in any number of musical styles and as an accompanist, can back a singer or soloist with taste and sensitivity. Mark is a member of the David Bromberg Band.

Roy Curry

Roy Curry is known internationally as one of the finest flat pickers in existence, he’s also highly respected locally and enjoys freelancing as well as playing electric guitar. His talent has won him 24 guitars so far, and he’s not done yet. His accolades include having won the Winfield/Walnut Valley Festival’s National Flat Pick Guitar Contest three times; the New England Flat Picking Championship contest twice; Merlefest; Renofest; and the Wayne Henderson Guitar Contest twice (most recently in 2015). He is also the 2010 and 2014 Minnesota State Flat Picking Champion and the 2005 Tennessee State Flat Picking Champion. Roy has toured nationally with the Forester Sisters, and regionally with Danny Shirley (of Confederate Railroad fame), taught at Steve Kaufman’s Acoustic Kamp and was featured as the cover story in the Nov/Dec 2004 edition of Flat Picking Guitar Magazine. Roy performs with The Hamilton County Ramblers.
