Alexa Rose is a folk singer-songwriter originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Her songs are authentically place-based and gentle, while still maintaining the brassy attitude and simple refrains that run straight through American roots music from mountain ballads to rock n roll.
Kathryn O’Shea is a folk singer/songwriter who was born and raised in Asheville, NC, known best for her hauntingly poignant lyricism and masterful vocal play.
Alexa Rose · 7:00PM
Alexa Rose is a folk singer-songwriter hailing from the small towns of the Blue Ridge. Now based in Asheville, NC, she is working on her studio album "Medicine For Living," to be released this summer on Big Legal Mess Records.
Rose has the rare ability to find strikingly original melodies that nevertheless sound like they must have existed for a long time, stored away maybe in the ether of creativity, self-evident and awaiting discovery. Moving deftly between complex dexterity and heart-tugging familiarity, Rose achieves a gentle sound, while still maintaining the brassy attitude and simple refrains that run straight through American roots music from mountain ballads to rock n roll.
Amidst the sea of earnestly soft-sung songs on the Americana circuit, Rose’s voice stands out with depth and complexity, capable of gymnastic yodels and deep resonance. Rose’s sound evokes the likes of Hurray for the Riff Raff and Margot Price, but she cultivates her own hard-working perspective without imitation or posturing. What separates her from the crowd is a tangible, relatable sense of hunger and realism about the sacrifices of the road, the elusiveness of fulfillment, and the bittersweetness of dreams.
Kathryn O’Shea · 7:00PM
Kathryn is a folk singer/songwriter who was born and raised in Asheville, NC, known best for her hauntingly poignant lyricism and masterful vocal play. This autumn, Kathryn placed 2nd overall in the 11th annual Brown Bag Songwriter’s Competition at The Asheville Music Hall and opened for LA-based artist Terra Naomi at 7 Stages Theater in Atlanta. As Immersive Atlanta put it in their review of her debut single, “The moment Kathryn O’Shea’s enormous voice slips into the jaunty bustle of ‘Snow,’ you’ll surely wonder what record label she’s gunning for.”
