Bassist from “Consider the Source,” solo bass performance, performing classical, rock and jazz inspired originals from his most recent album “A Lesson in Impermanence.”

John Ferrara is a bassist and composer, best known for his work with the acclaimed world fusion band “Consider the Source.” He’s gained worldwide recognition for his unorthodox approach to writing and performing that he accomplishes largely by utilizing the “two handed tapping technique”. His approach to the instrument in this way, changes its roll into something more akin to a piano or classical guitar.

Inspired by composers and jazz pianists equally, Ferrara’s music falls somewhere between the brooding moodiness of Phillip Glass mixed with the improvisational exploration of Chick Corea. The music paints many different scenes with shifts in mood and dynamics often occurring multiple times within each song, leading one popular bass guitar publication “NoTreble” to say “His use of two-handed tapping and other extended techniques are impressive, but the music itself is arresting.”
