From Raleigh, NC, Lemon Sparks seamlessly blends classic songwriting with sophisticated 60s psychedelia, 70s power pop, timeless folk, and jazz. It works! This is the band’s first performance in Asheville since opening for the Steve Miller Band at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.
Lemon Sparks · 7:00pm
How are various elements of folk, pop, jazz, rock, and disco best combined into music that is simultaneously sympathetic and riveting? With the sonic glue created at the hands of accomplished musicians, that's how! But there's no sense in analyzing it. It is simply fun. And beautiful.
Initially intended as a DIY recording project, the self-titled Lemon Sparks debut quickly morphed into a duo record with numerous guest spots scattered throughout. The addition of a third member allowed the band to move forward with live performances and the record's release. The Winston-Salem Journal said the band’s self-titled debut is "...a brilliant pop confection brimming with infectious, well-crafted songs influenced by music of the late '60s and early '70s, including the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Who, Badfinger and Big Star." Power Pop News said, "...different from anything you've likely heard... yet, eerily familiar."
The band has played regional clubs and festivals, as well as toured as support for larger international acts. A new album is currently in the works. Lemon Sparks is Jeff Carroll (vocals, guitar), Rick Lassiter (bass, vocals), and Greg Tourian (drums, vocals).
