Deep River has been Asheville’s Premier Country Vocal Group since 2007, and has been performing for a total of 28 years including a decade in Nashville. The Band has sung with country music superstar/part-time Eagle Vince Gill, and opened for 2-time country Grammy winner Kathy Mattea, Grand Ole Opry star Mark Wills, Country Music Hall Of Fame member, Charlie Louvin of The Louvin Brothers, and the 'First Lady of Bluegrass', Wilma Lee Cooper.
Since 2007 Deep River has performed at numerous venues around Asheville and WNC including Isis Music Hall, Ambrose West, The Grey Eagle, The Grove Park Inn, The Altamont Theatre, the Biltmore Lake Summer Concert Series and Feed & Seed in Fletcher just to name a few, as well as numerous private events and benefits including several for the Asheville Humane Society and Heart Of The Foothills Animal Rescue in Rutherford County, etc.
Deep River's repertoire includes more than a dozen original songs such as ‘Civil War’ which was rated 'Honorable Mention' in Music Row magazine by country music historian Robert K.
Oermann and played on Asheville’s KISS Country 99 FM. The Band also specializes in the best country music from the 80’s and 90’s including songs by Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea and Pam Tillis, as well as Southern California country rock hits from 70’s icons like the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Pure Prairie League.
Deep River is fronted by three female vocalists (acoustic rhythm guitarist Sandy Howard, bass guitarist Sharon Lewis and Nita Smith) and backed by three of Asheville’s finest musicians (drummer Justin Watt, lead guitarist Alec Fehl and fiddler Paul McIntire). For our Women Of Country 1973-2019 show we will be joined by keyboardist Taylor Pierson.
