With songs as sweet and biting as the nectar and venom in her voice, Rachel Sumner has been captivating audiences throughout the northeast with her exciting new band Traveling Light. While their instrumentation and textures show roots deep in bluegrass and traditional folk music, Sumner’s lyric-forward writing and penchant for snaking chord progressions demand something beyond folk conventions, highlighting the acrobatic range of her brilliant bandmates Kat Wallace (fiddle/harmonies), Ira Klein (acoustic guitar), and Mike Siegel (upright bass). Sumner’s songs have been critically acclaimed, winning the Lennon Award in the folk category of the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for her song “Radium Girls (Curie Eleison);” earning her a spot in the Kerrville New Folk Competition; and being chosen two consecutive years by WBUR/NPR as one of the top Massachusetts entries in the Tiny Desk Competition.
Liv Greene is a queer Americana singer/songwriter based in Nashville, TN, whose music “envelops a forlorn loneliness that’s at once poignant and crushing.”- American Songwriter.
Inspired by the records her parents played in her childhood home in DC—artists like Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and Ella Fitzgerald— Greene’s passion for songs and storytelling started early and took off the moment she taught herself her first guitar chords at age 12. Greene is an award-winning writer and performer. In 2019 alone, she won the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition, and was first alternate in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour Contest for Songwriters.
Alice Bradley is a singer-songwriter who plays banjo and guitar. Her original songs weave together imagery from the natural world and potent storytelling to evoke life’s wild twists and turns. She is particularly inspired by old-time fiddle tunes and lives in Asheville, NC.
